Environ-Mentalism
Our philosophy on brewing and the environmental is pretty simple: we love making beer and hate creating waste. We’re always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental impact and here’s a few things we have been doing to help:
ReFUSE PARTNERSHIP: we worked with our pals over at ReFuse to create a comprehensive recylcing program, and even a compost program, to ensure we minimize our waste. http://www.refuse.ca
LIFECYCLE ANALYSIS: we track our co2 footprint at every level of production to identify areas of improvement. Over the past 2 years we’ve lowered our g co2 emitted/6 pack by over 25%!
CLIMATESMART: we are a proud member of the Climatesmart Business Program which works with us to measure and reduce our environmental impact at every level of our production. https://climatesmartbusiness.com/how-it-works/
STEAM RECLAIMATION: steam produced from the boiling of wort during the brewing process is reclaimed and used to heat water for the next brew.
REFRIGERATION RECLAIMATION: how’s this for a mind-bender: we use heat from our refrigeration system to heat our office.
BOTTLE POOL MEMBER: we are a member of the bottle pool and use recycled glass bottles for our beer. That means each bottle of Phillips beer is reused an average of 13 times!
SPENT GRAIN PROGRAM: once we’re finished with the grain from a brew, it gets loaded into a trailer and picked up by a local farmer to feed his cows! It then returns through the Earth through…you know…
